‘Revisiting Christ and Culture’
Albert Mohler, Blog, 6 Jan 2009
"Here is a simple rule to keep in mind: When D. A. Carson writes a book, buy it. This is certainly the case with Carson's recent book, Christ & Culture Revisited [Eerdmans]." A firm commendation for this recent book.

General cultural resources

CultureWatch is a useful site with plenty of resources on films, books, music, television and other cultural developments, all from a Christian perspective. They also send out a weekly e-mail highlighting additions to the site.

The Kindlings “is a forum where thoughtful creatives can explore ideas that matter in contemporary life, as sparked through our personal journeys and through our shared cultural experience in art, movies, books, music and events.” There is an extensive podcast archive on the site.

Jeffrey Overstreet (Christianity Today Movies critic) has written Through a Screen Darkly (Regal Books). You can read more about the book and the author at the book's Web site, where there are links to chapters and interviews with the author. The book's subtitle is Looking Closer at Beauty, Truth and Evil in the Movies, and it looks at over 200 different films.

Tony Watkins's book Focus: The Art and Soul of Cinema (Damaris Books, 2007) “explains how films communicate the worldview of the film-maker, helping us to engage more fully with the films we watch — and so to enjoy them more.” Watkins has “a passion for film and a deep concern to develop a robust Christian understanding of our culture,” and his book aims to equip us “to recognise and respond to the messages in today's movies.” The book's site has a full contents, a preview extract, and some additional resources.
