Follow up from the sermons
Dietrich Bonhoeffer
David mentioned Bonhoeffer in the second message. Read more about him at Wikipedia, which lists some further articles and books about him. Edwin Robertson has written The Shame and the Sacrifice: The life and teaching of Dietrich Bonhoeffer (Hodder & Stoughton, 1987. ISBN 0-340-41063-9) which Peter is willing to lend anyone who is interested. T C has some blog articles about Bonhoeffer's book The Cost of Discipleship which might give you a flavour of what he taught.
Jim Elliot
David mentioned Jim Elliot in the second message. He was an American missionary who went to Ecuador in 1952. He and four companions were killed in 1956 as they sought to reach the Waodani people with the Gospel. Read more about him and his companions at Wikipedia. See a photograph of the original journal entry at Wikipedia. Jim's journals were published after his death by his wife, Elizabeth under the title of Journals of Jim Elliot (London: Pickering & Inglis, 1978. ISBN 0-7208-0444-2). Peter is willing to lend a copy of this to anyone who would want to read it.
C. T. Studd
David mentioned C. T. Studd in the first message. Read his biography, C. T. Studd Cricketer and Pioneer by Norman P. Grubb (Lutterworth Press, 2003 [orignally published 1933]). ISBN:0-718-83028-8. A more modern book that deals with Studd and some of his contemporaries is The Cambridge Seven by John Pollock (London: Marshalls, 1985, 2nd ed.). There is also a children's biography entitled Millionaire for God: Story of C. T. Studd by J. Erskine (Lutterworth Press, 1986). ISBN 9780718824877.
Read his cricketing record at The Cricket Archive. Or read some of his best known quotations. Read about The Cambridge Seven and C. T. Studd at Wikipedia. You can also read Studd's own book The Chocolate Soldier Heroism: The Lost Chord Christianity online at Project Gutenberg
J. Hudson Taylor
