Advent

Peter F. Whyte, Advent 2010

Just what is Advent? Is there more to it than a fancy calendar to count down the days to Christmas?

For many centuries Christians have sought to take time during the countdown to Christmas to think about just why Jesus Christ was born. And the reason might just surprise you if you're not a regular church attender.

So along with all the preparation we all make for Christmas — the presents, the food, the parties, the family visits — why not make some spiritual preparations this Christmas? It can't hurt to think about the really important things in life. And Advent is a really good time to do that.

To help you we'll be posting a series of short articles each Sunday from now until Christmas. They're entitled “The Many-splendoured Christ” because Christmas is all about Jesus Christ. If Christmas has become a little jaded for you, then explore the real wonder of Christmas along with us. Make Christmas a truly wonderful time with something more than sparkle and glitz that will last a lifetime and beyond.
