Dr Luke gives us a model for the corporate prayer life of the church in the second volume of his account of Jesus and his Church. We know it as The Acts of the Apostles. David has encouraged us to take up the ‘1x1 Challenge’ and take Dr Luke's message about prayer seriously. Will we commit ourselves to one hour once a week, and make it our practice to attend the corporate church prayer meeting that we might get connected with the power and plans of God? Listen again to his message, and be encouraged by John Newton's hymn that we sang after the message.
Great Shepherd of Your people, hear
John Newton, 1725–1807
1 Great Shepherd of Your people, hear; Your presence now display; as You have given a place for prayer, so give us hearts to pray. 2 Show us some token of Your love, our fainting hope to raise; and pour Your blessings from above, that we may render praise. 3 Within these walls let holy peace, and love and concord dwell; here give the troubled conscience ease, the wounded spirit heal. 4 May we in faith receive Your Word, in faith present our prayers, and in the presence of our Lord unburden all our cares. 5 The hearing ear, the seeing eye, the contrite heart bestow: and shine upon us from on high, that we in grace may grow. Amen.
